The Royal Alexandra Hospital Women’s Auxiliary has a proud history of supporting
the Royal Alexandra Hospital, its patients and staff, and the community.
All members and executive are volunteers
1899 - The Women’s Aid Society was created to fundraise and carry the mortgage for the first Royal Alexandra Hospital which opened in 1900 at 96 Street and 103A Avenue
1906 - Funds were raised to support a new hospital at 111 Avenue and 102 Street (now Glenrose Hospital site). The Women’s Aid Society carried the mortgage, and paid for furnishings and equipment, including dishes! Ongoing fundraising supported building upkeep.
1939 - The name was changed to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Royal Alexandra Hospital
1963 - The new hospital opened on Kingsway Avenue and 102 Street. Women’s Auxiliary opened the ‘Royal A’ Gift Shop in the sub-basement to continue raising funds for equipment, nursing education, and patient supports. With subsequent renovations, the Gift Shop moved to the lobby of the Main Hospital.
2011 - A second Gift Shop opened in the lobby of the newly constructed Robbins Pavilion. This venue specializes in clothing and gifts for newborns and their families.
2022 - Women’s Auxiliary entered into an agreement with the hospital to support the ongoing support of the Ted and Lois Hole Healing Garden in Robbins Pavilion, and Vivian’s Garden on the 2nd Floor Atrium of the Main Hospital
2025 - Women’s Auxiliary helped celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Royal Alexandra Hospital
